Throughout Sixth Form at BCS, our pupils are supported in making important decisions about their future. We know that it can be difficult for pupils to choose a path at a young age, and to aid our Sixth Formers in this we have a structured careers programme that is delivered during tutor time throughout Sixth Form. At BCS we use the Unifrog platform to support pupils with exploring career options and pathways. Unifrog provides pupils with information and resources on a wide range of subjects, university courses, apprenticeships, and careers.
We hold an annual Futures Day for all of our Year 12 pupils, which allows them to explore various career pathways. As part of this, we host guest speakers on universities, apprenticeships, and entrepreneurship to name a few. Mrs Yeats, our Careers Advisor, meets with our Sixth Formers for personalised career meetings. If our pupils are unsure of what they want to pursue after Sixth Form, Mrs Yeats is available to meet with them to discuss their strengths, interests, and current courses to identify potential future pathways.
"I support pupils within all aspects of careers including 1-2-1 career interviews, signposting and research, structuring a gap year to support your future, work experience, applications, results day and beyond! The support doesn’t stop after you receive your results and I am happy to be available to our Alumni."
BCS has a strong track record in supporting pupils in securing places on competitive university courses in the UK. To support pupils in pursuing higher education we provide a structured UCAS programme. In the Summer term, our Year 12 pupils attend a UCAS Discovery event allowing them to speak to representatives for hundreds of UK universities. Alongside our Sixth Form tutor team, Mr Eberlin (Deputy Head of Sixth Form) supports our pupils in completing their UCAS application for UK universities, writing personal statements and applying for international universities. Pupils with ambitions to apply for Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Dentistry and the University of Oxford or Cambridge receive additional support from specialist tutors to prepare them for admissions tests and interviews. Finally, what matters most to us at BCS is helping each pupil identify their unique career aspirations and then providing bespoke guidance to support them in achieving these aspirations.

At BCS Sixth Form we encourage pupils to engage in super-curricular activities alongside their studies. Super-curricular activities push a pupil beyond the curriculum in the subject where their academic interests lie. They extend a pupil’s knowledge beyond what they would gain just purely excelling in their chosen Sixth Form courses. We support pupils in seeking out super-curricular activities that relate to the course they wish to pursue at university. During tutor time, pupils work towards completing super-curricular activities unique to their ambitions. For example, in the summer term during "MOOC month", Year 12 pupils are tasked with completing at least one MOOC (Massive Online Open Course) that relates to their interests.
At BCS Sixth Form pupils can pursue completing an EPQ in addition to their three Sixth Form courses. The EPQ is a perfect super-curricular opportunity for ambitious and independent pupils. The EPQ allows pupils to showcase their passion for a specific topic of their choosing and develop advanced research skills in preparation for university. The EPQ is equivalent to 50% of an A-Level and is well regarded by many universities.
