BCS Sixth Formers are provided with many opportunities to develop their skills for life and forge friendships beyond the classroom. The beginning of the Sixth Form starts with an induction activity day, where pupils from both Years 12 and 13 enjoy a day together getting to know each other. This is often offsite, previous team building days have included Ninja Warrior activity centre in Southampton and Dorset Adventure Park mud trail.
Extra-curricular trips are available throughout the year, these have previously included New York, Skiing and a Visual Arts Trip to London. There is a busy co-curricular offering for pupils to involve themselves in. With many pupils taking part in the school productions and competing for sports academies there is never the time to not be challenged or busy! Other examples include Code Club, Landscape Painting and Beginners Cooking. These opportunities allow pupils to gain something which enhances their educational experience and provide a respite from their studies.
BCS Sixth Formers are also encouraged to get involved in leading areas of school life. This might include delivering assemblies or leading co-curricular activities focused on particular interests. Towards the end of Year 12, pupils can apply for positions of responsibility. These include Heads of Schools, Deputy Heads of School, Prefects and Boarding Prefects. These leadership positions offer rewarding opportunities to mentor younger pupils, organise charity events, lead the pupil council as well as coordinate the annual Sixth Form Summer Ball.
In 2024, Sixth Form pupils and staff took part in the Dorset Mud Run - a 6km obstacle course. In addition to having lots of muddy fun, our pupils developed organisation and fundraising skills resulting in raising money for the Elizabeth Foundation which is a small charity that supports children with deafness. Last year, our Sixth Form took part in a sponsored YMCA Sleep Easy. Our pupils slept in carboard boxes outside raising awareness of the issue of homelessness and funds for YMCA projects supporting young people.
Each year the Sixth Form choose different venues for the annual Summer Ball and it is reflection of the current cohort. It is a celebration of the end of Sixth Form at BCS for our Year 13s but both year groups attend. In 2025, the Sixth Form Summer Ball was held at the stunning Italian Villa at Compton Acres.
