COURSE OVERVIEW

The Fine Art & Textiles A Level is ideal for creative and visual pupils who have a passion for art, design and making, and who enjoy exploring ideas through a wide range of materials, including fabrics, paint, print and mixed media. This integrated course allows 
pupils to develop their personal and creative ideas across both Fine Art and Textile disciplines before specialising. 

In the first year of the course, pupils will be introduced to a wide range of creative working techniques and approaches across both areas. These include drawing, painting, printmaking, fabric manipulation, dyeing, stitch, and surface design. Pupils will produce a portfolio and sketchbook of work in response to a variety of themes, encouraging experimentation and the exploration of both disciplines.

Pupils are taught and supported by specialist teaching staff throughout. At the end of Year 12, pupils will make an informed decision about their preferred pathway, choosing to specialise in either Fine Art or Textiles. In the second year of the course, pupils will produce their own practical Personal Investigation within their chosen discipline, alongside an externally set practical exam. 

A GCSE in Art or Textiles is not essential, but experience in a visual subject or a portfolio of work is preferable.
