COURSE OVERVIEW

A Psychology A-Level would suit anyone who is interested in people and human behaviour.  

Students will carry out investigations on behaviour and how psychology has developed over the last couple of centuries.

Course elements include, social influence including conformity and obedience, the structure of our memory, the early attachments infants form with their caregivers and the effect this can have on later relationships and finally a variety of abnormal behaviours and their treatments. 

A Psychology A-Level is ideal for those with an analytical mind, willing to explore and debate on a variety of subjects.

Paper 1 - Introductory topics in psychology (33.3% of total A-Level mark)

Paper 2 – Psychology in context (33.3% of total A-Level mark)

Paper 3 – Issues and options in psychology (33.3% of total A-Level mark)

·       Issues and debates in psychology

·       Relationships

·       Schizophrenia

·       Forensic psychology

What can pupils’ study next?

Psychology has a wide variety of applications, since it is used in all industries in some way. 

For students specifically interested in pursuing a career as a Psychologist a degree in Psychology is essential, usually followed by a Masters and then either a PhD or Doctorate specialising in an area of psychology, such as clinical, forensic or sport.
