At BCS Prep, Religious Education encourages pupils to explore beliefs, values and traditions with curiosity, respect and reflection. Through the study of Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Judaism, Sikhism, Buddhism and Humanism, pupils develop an understanding of different beliefs and worldviews while learning to appreciate diverse perspectives and reflect on their own values.

What Pupils Learn

Pupils progressively develop their knowledge of major world religions and worldviews, exploring key beliefs, practices, festivals and sacred stories. They consider questions of meaning, purpose and values, learning to express their own ideas thoughtfully while listening to and respecting the perspectives of others.

How We Teach

RE is taught weekly through structured and engaging lessons that build knowledge and understanding over time. Discussion, reflection and thoughtful questioning are central to learning, alongside reading, writing, drama and creative activities. Artefacts and digital resources help bring different religions and worldviews to life and encourage independent exploration.

Enrichment & Assessment

Learning is enriched through educational visits, visiting speakers, artefacts and virtual experiences, giving pupils opportunities to encounter faith and belief in meaningful contexts. RE is also embedded in school life through assemblies and celebrations including Harvest, Christmas, Lunar New Year and Easter. Progress is assessed through discussion, written work, practical activities and end-of-unit judgements.

Celebrating Achievement

Achievement in RE is recognised through classwork, assemblies and school awards. Pupils contribute to whole-school celebrations and have opportunities to share their learning through music, poetry, creative work and performance, building confidence while celebrating the diversity of beliefs, traditions and cultures within the school and wider community.
