At BCS Prep, we are proud to be a ‘sport for all’ school, where every pupil is encouraged to participate, progress and achieve their potential. From Kindergarten to Year 6, our broad programme develops physical skills, confidence, teamwork and resilience, inspiring a lifelong enjoyment of sport, swimming and an active lifestyle.
Early Years
In PE, children develop fundamental movement skills, coordination and cooperation through engaging games and themed activities. In Swimming, pupils are introduced to water safety and develop confidence through basic swimming skills.
Key Stage 1
Pupils develop skills across football, rugby, hockey, netball, cricket, athletics, basketball, tennis and gymnastics through practical activities and small-sided games. In Swimming, they build confidence, develop stroke technique and strengthen their understanding of water safety.
Key Stage 2
Pupils refine their skills through competitive games and fixtures, alongside athletics, basketball, tennis, trampolining and health-related exercise. Swimming focuses on stroke technique, endurance, water confidence and competitive skills, preparing pupils for opportunities to perform at increasingly challenging levels.
Sport and Swimming are taught through active, inclusive and differentiated sessions, ensuring pupils of all abilities can participate and succeed. Skills are developed through practical learning, fixtures and competition, with technology supporting feedback and performance analysis. Links with PSHCE and Science also strengthen pupils’ understanding of health, fitness and wellbeing.
Pupils benefit from regular fixtures, inter-school events and regional competitions, with opportunities for talented athletes and swimmers to compete at county, regional and national level, including IAPS and ISA events. Progress is assessed continuously through observation of skill, effort, teamwork and performance, with regular feedback encouraging every pupil to achieve their personal best.
Sporting achievement is celebrated at every level, from participation and personal progress to regional and national success. Recent highlights include IAPS national titles in trampolining, football tournament success, strong performances at the PEDSSA Swimming Gala and County Cross Country, and pupils qualifying for national competitions. These achievements celebrate sporting excellence while reinforcing the teamwork, commitment and confidence at the heart of BCS Sport.
