In the spotlight of our school's achievements shines Lucas, a young talent with an extraordinary passion for volleyball. At just 14 years old, Lucas made history by becoming the youngest player ever to join Wessex Men’s 1st team. His debut season with the team was nothing short of spectacular, as he established himself as a core member, excelling in positions such as Outside Hitter/Opposite & Libero. Lucas's prowess on the court didn't go unnoticed, as he earned the prestigious title of "Best Serve-Receive Player" of the season, boasting an impressive average of 73% per match.

Representing u15 Wessex Boys, he achieved the bronze medal in the U15 Boys Volleyball England National Cup, showcasing his versatility and talent across different formats of the game. Lucas is set to represent South West in the upcoming U15 Volleyball England Inter-Regional Championship Finals, marking yet another milestone in his promising career.

Under the guidance of his father, David Rijvers, a former GB and England volleyball player, Lucas's journey in beach volleyball has been equally remarkable. Despite his young age, Lucas's dedication knows no bounds. He trained rigorously outdoors throughout the winter months, rain or shine, and participated in intensive camps at Bournemouth Beach Volleyball Club courts and abroad in Holland and France, learning from top Olympic beach volleyball coaches.

Lucas's recent triumph in the beach volleyball arena is a testament to his talent and hard work. Teaming up with Matt Hunter, an Ex-England Senior Beach International, he secured his first gold medal in a three-star UKBT adult tournament in Bournemouth. What's even more impressive is that he became the youngest competitor in UKBT tournament history to achieve this feat, setting a new standard for aspiring athletes in the sport.

As Lucas continues to excel, his journey in volleyball shows no signs of slowing down. He's been invited back for the U18 England National Junior Beach Squad and is eyeing prestigious international tournaments, including the U17 NEVZA Championships in Denmark and the U18 CEV European Championships in Georgia. With aspirations to compete for England on the FIVB Adult World Beach Pro-Tour.

Lucas's determination and talent promises a bright future ahead in the world of volleyball. We couldn't be prouder of what he as achieved, and we eagerly await his future successes both on and off the court.
