BCS is delighted to celebrate one of our strongest GCSE results, with significant improvements on the school's overall pass rate and exceptional performance across a wide range of subjects.
Particular highlights include English and Mathematics, both achieving an outstanding 97% pass rate (grades 9-4), placing BCS significantly above the national average, which currently stands at around 65%. The school also celebrates outstanding subject results, with 100% of pupils achieving grades 9-4 across 15 GCSE subjects.
The results reflect the determination, resilience and ambition of a cohort that faced considerable change during the pandemic years. These pupils have demonstrated remarkable commitment and perseverance throughout their GCSE studies.
The school is especially proud of the many pupils who achieved results beyond their expected grades, reflecting not only their own hard work and dedication but also the commitment of BCS staff and the impact from additional support clinics and intervention programmes offered throughout their courses.
Among the standout performers were Sophia, Olivia, Maddie and Daniel, who excelled with an impressive collection of grades 9 and 8. Their success is particularly special as Maddie and Daniel began their educational journey within the BCS Prep School and have grown into confident, well-rounded young people who have embraced every aspect of school life.
An equally remarkable aspect of this year's results is the success achieved by BCS's international pupils, many of whom have been studying in English for only a short period of time. Their achievements are a testament to the dedication of the pupils themselves, the support of their families and the strength of the school's specialist English language and Accelerator Programme.
Several pupils who joined the school's Accelerator Course just two or three terms ago achieved outstanding grades of 7, 8 and 9 in both English and Mathematics. To attain such exceptional results whilst studying as a second language is an extraordinary accomplishment and reflects the ambition, determination and academic ability of these students.
Among the cohort's highest achievers was Seohwi, who achieved an exceptional collection of grades 8 and 9 across the board, while Oscar secured an impressive range of grades 7 to 9. Varavudh, who has been studying in England for just two years, achieved a majority of grades 8 and 9, representing a remarkable level of attainment given the additional challenge of mastering an academic curriculum in a second language.
These achievements demonstrate not only academic excellence but also resilience, adaptability and courage. Studying for GCSEs in English is a significant challenge, and the success of these pupils highlights the incredible progress that can be achieved through hard work, expert teaching and a supportive school community. Their results stand alongside the very best achievements within the cohort and provide an inspiring example of what is possible when talent and determination are matched with opportunity.
Maria Coulter, Principal of Bournemouth Collegiate School, said:
"We are incredibly proud of every single pupil receiving their GCSE results today. These outcomes represent years of hard work, determination and resilience, the significant improvement in our overall pass rate, alongside exceptional results in English Literature, Mathematics and so many other subjects, is a testament to the commitment of our pupils, our dedicated staff and the strong partnership we enjoy with families."
In addition to their academic achievements, BCS pupils have distinguished themselves through their contributions to sport, the performing arts, leadership opportunities and wider co-curricular activities, embodying the values that sit at the heart of a BCS education. Whilst today is an important milestone, GCSE results do not define these young people. They are a cohort who care deeply about the world around them, who have excelled in sport, the creative and performing arts, and who have made a positive contribution to our school community. They are compassionate, ambitious and thoughtful individuals with exciting futures ahead of them.
