BCS Swim Team Makes a Strong Start at the James Marino Open Meet

Last week, 38 swimmers from the Bournemouth Collegiate School Swim Team travelled to Southampton for the annual James Marino Open Meet, marking the first competition of the new season.

After eight weeks of dedicated training, the event provided a valuable early benchmark for the squad. Older swimmers aimed to perform within 5% of their personal bests, while younger members targeted new personal bests and county qualifying times.

The team delivered excellent results, achieving 143 personal best swims from 210 individual events - an impressive 68% PB rate. Coaches praised the swimmers for their positive attitude, professionalism, and the high standard of performance across all age groups.

A particular highlight came as Martha competed in her first open meet, having progressed from the BCS Learn to Swim programme into the competitive squad - a milestone moment celebrated by the coaching team.

Head of Swimming, Sam Woodward, commented:

“It was a very positive weekend. The swimmers represented BCS brilliantly both in and out of the pool.”

The team now looks ahead to the next phase of training in preparation for upcoming meets in Guildford and Windsor this December.
