WORLD BOOK WEEK

15 March 2018

Wow, what a busy and fantastic couple of weeks. Thanks to the snow days, our Book Week was extended, giving us more time to enjoy reading!

Here are some of the fabulous things we got up to!

Story creating workshops with Treehouse Theatre – Ben and Darren came in and made the children into superheroes and crazy creatures and then featured them in their own stories!

Sarah Gormley Bowdler from the Big Little Theatre Company gave drama and performance skills with Reception, Year 5 and Year 6. The older children worked around their core texts: Kensuke’s Kingdom and Holes.

We had Buddy reading; the children swapped classes and read with different friends and the teachers even swapped and read to classes other than their own, which was very exciting!

On Wednesday, Mrs Poole, our Head of English did a whole school assembly about the History of World Book Day. Did you know that World Book Day is celebrated in over 100 countries around the world and has been held for 18 years? During the assembly we discovered which books were our teachers favourites and even that Miss Amstutz always wanted to go to boarding school and make her Mum’s broomstick fly! All because of reading The Worst Witch!!

After playing in the snow and sledging, World Book Day parade took place on Thursday 8th, with all of our children and teachers dressing up as book characters. We had: Mary Poppins, Mr Stink, Skulduggery Pleasant, Matilda, Tin Tin, Harry Potter, Thing 1 and thing 2, Merida, The Tiger Who Came to Tea and hundreds more characters. Our costume winners were Tin Tin, Mr Stink and Superman who all won an Easter egg and a five pounds book token to spend at the Book Fair on 12th-16th March.

Friday saw us Wally Hunting and 16 lucky folk who found a Wally got to keep him and munch on a yummy chocolate bar!

The best part of Book Week for Mrs Poole was the amazing ‘Reading Breakfast’, which also took part on Friday Morning. My Goodness! we have never seen so many parents and children enjoying reading a book together, it was a wonderful atmosphere, lots of happy smiling faces and a really chilled and relaxing feeling around the dining room.
