COURSE OVERVIEW

Physics A-Level builds upon and extends work carried out in the GCSE course.  There are familiar topics such as forces and motion, electricity and waves together with new topics such as quantum mechanics.

Each component is examined in far greater detail as we look to see how ideas are linked across different areas of the subject. We also examine how Physics can be applied in a wide range of areas including medicine and astronomy.

Assessment structure

Theme 1: Development of practical skills in Physics 

Theme 2: Foundations in Physics 

Theme 3: Forces and motion 

Theme 4: Electrons, waves and photons 

Theme 5: Newtonian world and astrophysics

Theme 6: Particles and medical Physics 

 

What can pupils' study next?

Physics is regarded as an excellent base for a wide range of career paths and university courses. Most students will follow a science-based path however the skills acquired throughout the course make this subject desirable for any university course or career.
