Welcome to Bournemouth Collegiate School

Making a Difference

Bournemouth Collegiate School (BCS) is no ordinary school. Launched in 2009, with all the opportunity for innovation that is provided by a new start, BCS has 130 years of history to provide depth, experience and continuity. The merger of two long-standing local schools with the support and resources of the United Church Schools Trust (UCST) has created a strong and exciting new educational venture for the Bournemouth, Poole and surrounding areas. The Preparatory and Senior School are on separate sites, providing strong continuity from age 4 to 18 years, but at the same time creating two vibrant communities with a real sense of progression as pupils change schools at age 11. Both day and boarding (boarding from age 11 only) pupils are welcome, and we offer the only co-educational boarding school and the only independent co-educational Sixth Form in the Bournemouth and Poole area. We are also strongly committed to flexi-boarding for those who want the best of both worlds.

Our prime location on the south coast is a major asset that colours much of the life of our schools. The sea is embedded in our curriculum and drives our high-profile focus on water sports and outdoor learning. ICT provision is outstanding (with an interactive whiteboard in every teaching space and access to the UCST Virtual Learning Environment) and so is the breadth of our curriculum (with a strong emphasis on music, performing arts, sport and technology to enhance the core academic curriculum) – the BCS approach is always to challenge and enrich children across the widest possible spectrum of experience and achievement.

The strength and nationally-recognised innovation of the style of teaching and learning that has developed within UCST schools underpins our commitment to quality in everything we do. We promote education in breadth as well as in depth, and aim in every sense to seek the best in everyone through our child-centred approach and individual learning profiles. Being part of a group that teaches 22000 children across the country enables us to share experience and ideas and to benefit from stability as well as dynamism. But at the same time, being a medium-sized independent school allows us to provide our own unique and personal setting for learning and living. The advantages are obvious. Do explore what we have to offer and then contact us – we’d love to talk to you and show you around our happy and exciting school.
