At BCS we offer a wide range of subjects to study in the Sixth Form and welcome students from the UK and overseas with an extensive breadth of academic and co-curricular interests. There are approximately 100 students across the whole of the Sixth Form, typically about 45-55 in each year group, large enough to provide variety and challenge but small enough for every student to be known.
Set in the traditional settings of the Senior site, the Sixth Form is just 5 minutes walk away from the beaches and the shops, cafes and restaurants of Southbourne and 15 minutes from Bournemouth, the jewel of Britain’s South Coast.
Bournemouth is a vibrant and colourful resort with miles of sandy beaches and panoramic views of the coastline, as well as a cosmopolitan and cultural town centre with hundreds of restaurants and bars that come alive long after the sun has gone down.
Class sizes are small, normally 6-10 students in a group and this allows for individual care and academic support to be provided, which in turn allows every student to reach their potential. This is reflected in the record-breaking A level results over the last few years.
Students leave BCS to continue their studies at the top universities here or overseas. However, we recognise that this is not necessarily the right route for some of our students and through our extensive links with local and national businesses we have helped a number of recent leavers into the work place or apprentice placements with nationally recognised organisations.
BCS has a dedicated Sixth Form centre which is made up of a purpose built study area, a café and social space (with a garden) and a Sixth Form office and meeting room.
Careers advice plays a major role in the Sixth Form and experienced teachers are on hand to guide students through UK and international university applications or in applying for employment or vocational opportunities. We also offer the chance to complete the Extended Project Qualification, this is something that universities are increasingly keen to see from Sixth Form students as part of their UCAS applications.
The school’s results are excellent and it is our expectation that every student will gain access to their chosen course at their first choice university: that is the norm at BCS Sixth Form. Typically, each year 25% of leavers gain entry into Russell Group universities, including some to Oxford and Cambridge. 95% of all our leavers move on to Higher Education, the small remaining minority take gap years or move directly to employment.
BCS Sixth Form adopts a friendly atmosphere based on mutual respect, individuality and support. Our close-knit community values encourage diversity as well as foster academic and social self-development. Our curriculum is delivered by specialist teachers who have a passion for their subjects, allowing students to engage with the content in real depth.
