Sixth Form Careers Advice
The great majority of our Sixth Form students move from school to university, either directly or with an intervening Gap Year. Nevertheless, careers advice is a vital part of their forward planning as it will shape their choice of subjects and universities.
Careers advice starts in Year 9 when children choose their GCSE options, and it’s not too early to start thinking about Higher Education at this stage. The school’s Careers Coordinator is available to help and guide parents and students. The Sixth Form will also have benefit from career-relevant contact with visitors who speak to them through the Enrichment programme.
In recent months, Year 12 and 13 students have hosted specialised talks from the local MP, Tobias Ellwood, a financial advisor, a marketing manager, a representative from the Specials police, a chiropractor, a female mechanical engineer, an international aid worker. The objective of these talks is to broaden and deepen their awareness of other professions to further inform them in their career choices. The Sixth Form have found these specialised talks very useful and their understanding of different aspects of the world of work has been opened up for them.
This is an ongoing programme and BCS is delighted to invite professionals from wide ranging walks of life to come in and speak to our Sixth Formers. Please contact the school office if you are willing to deliver a talk about your particular career.
