Structure of the Day
A large part of your time will be taken up with timetabled
lessons as we give you extensive contact time with your subject teachers, more
than you may get elsewhere. We do this
to ensure that students can obtain the best possible grades, and that they
outperform.
‘Free’ lessons are filled with chilling out in the common
room, chatting in the internet café/coffee bar area, working individually in
one of the dedicated sixth form study rooms (all with networked computers),
popping into town, shooting some baskets in the large sports hall, playing some
tennis or football with friends, jamming or practising or composing in the
music department, or doing some work experience or an enrichment activity.
The day starts at 8.40am every morning and finishes at 4pm. Many stay until 5 pm if they attend an
activity, or if they are receiving extra help from a teacher, or if they are on
the school minibus. Games is part of the
week, and all sixth form academic lessons are an hour long, although you may
have double lessons.
A full three course lunch is available every day and sixth
form students have first choice, but sixth formers are able to go out for lunch
if they wish. There are three one-hour lessons before lunch and two after
lunch. There is also a first break. However, sixth form timetables mean that you
have other ‘frees’ at different times of the day, so your day is hugely
individual and flexible.
