3-Year A-level Foundation Course
Foundation Year: Year 1 of 3 in the Bournemouth
Collegiate Sixth Form
Who is the course aimed at?
This course is for international students who have English as an
additional language and whose English is at a level that prevents them
from accessing the full AS/A level curriculum without the support of a
third year of study. The course is also suitable for international students with limited English skills and who wish to study at universities
in
the UK on completion of their A levels in the UK.
Year 1: Foundation Year
The first year includes lessons in:
- Mathematics
- Further Mathematics (if applicable)
- Science
- A choice of other AS level or GCSE level courses
The compulsory lessons in this first year also include:
- “In the News”: a conversational programme based on current local
and world news events helping to support students with their English and
current affairs
- “Cultural Studies”: a course aimed at learning more about British
and European Culture, the working environment in the EU, and the main
cultural traditions within the UK and the EU.
- Preparatory lessons in IELTS. (Our students average level 7 in
IELTS).
- A block of timetabled lessons in which Foundation A Level students
shadow other class groups
in the school
- A full programme of physical education and games.
- A full programme of Personal, Social, and Health Education (PSHE)
- Full participation in the Enrichment Programme followed by BCS
Sixth Form students
- Support with finding the right university, and visits to
universities in the UK, including Oxford and Cambridge
The students will be fully part of the BCS sixth form.
Year 2: AS levels and some A levels (as appropriate)
Year 3: A levels
Full EAL support is given in each year and IELTS is continued each year.
