The Football Academy is a player development programme integrated into school life to give aspiring footballers a platform to become the best that they can be. We strive to improve each and every individual technically and tactically while educating each athlete to become students of the game, embracing the social and psychological elements of football and sport.

The Football Academy is in partnership with the Saints Foundation, part of Southampton Football Club. This exciting and innovative partnership allows the Football Academy to mimic the Saints Academy Coaching Curriculum to give our students the most up to date coaching. We also have access to Saints coaches who support our programme delivering sessions across all age groups.

As well as coaching on the pitch, the footballers will undertake class room based sessions covering subjects including Player/Match Analysis, Performance Profiling, Motivation and Nutrition. All players will also have weekly Strength and Conditioning sessions along with SAQ and Flexibility training. Goalkeeper specific training is also available to those with a keen eye for goal.

Competitions/Exit Routes:

At BCS we play competitive football through the winter and spring terms and compete in the ISFA National Cup, Dorset County Cup, Bournemouth District League and enter a host of small sided tournaments throughout the year. Talented individuals who want to continue to compete at the top level can trial to play for one of our Saturday league sides – BCW Saints. With the team recruiting from BCS and our United Learning linked school, Winton and Glenmoor Academy, we compete in the FA sanctioned NERF Junior Premier League. This league is ideal for complementing the BCS Academy Football programme as the league itself is designed to aid player development rather than a focus on just winning.

There are many other value added bonuses to be gained from being involved in the BCS Football Academy including:

·         Opportunity to represent BCS in the annual football tour to Holland

·         Identifying talent

·         Access to sports physiotherapy and chiropractic via the Anglo European Chiropractic College (AECC)

·         Full Nike BCS Football Academy clothing

·         Exit routes to local clubs

·         Opportunities to see Southampton FC play, including stadium tours.

Rowing

The BCS Rowing Squad is run by Head Coach Robyn Chambers and Assistant Coaches Jasmine Hunt and Mark Sims. The programme consists of both water and land based training, with water training taking place at Christchurch Rowing Club. Squad members have access to both coastal and river boats and train either in Christchurch Harbour or on the River Stour. Land based training takes place at BCS where training for every athlete is overseen by Strength and Conditioning coach, Hayley Morris.

Rowing in affiliation with Christchurch Rowing Club, our rowers not only compete at water events, but also indoor events, including the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships (NJIRC).

The BCS Rowing Academy was officially launched in October 2012 by Olympic rowing champion, James Cracknell.

Rugby

Rugby at BCS offers a lot of opportunities for students in both their sporting and academic lives. We promote a family environment and tight network where we all push ourselves to succeed.

Over the past two years, we have been part of a unique collaboration between independent and academy status school, which are both under the United Learning umbrella.  This will be supported by our partner Bath Rugby. Having this partnership will create many opportunities for players to further their rugby development.

If you are accepted on to the Academy, you are expected to demonstrate extremely high standards both on and off the pitch. We promote the student athlete lifestyle within the Academy. Participation in training and fixtures is subject to academic attainment and all players must be achieving their BCS target.

There are many other value added bonuses to being part of the BCS Rugby Academy, including:

  • Talent ID opportunities
  • Access to physiotherapy at BCS and chiropractic via the AECC
  • Further development pathways (professional and local rugby clubs)

Selection

BCS Rugby Academy will offer several trial sessions to applicants where they will be invited to attend Academy training sessions. We will look at basic handling skills, fitness and everything in between before offering successful candidates places on the Academy.
