Choice and opportunity for overseas pupils

International Curriculum

BCS offers a number of programmes of study that are particularly applicable to students from outside the United Kingdom. These are detailed below:

A standard 2 year A Level course in Years 12 and 13 leading to 3 or 4 A2 qualifications

Please refer to the Year 12 options booklet for more information on each course.

Pre A Level Sixth Form course

There are three options of 1 term, 2 terms or 1 year. (September entry only) and these consist of:

a) 3 A Level option subjects which the pupil wishes to study in the following academic year. Please note: the School cannot guarantee an A Level pupil will be able to study their full selection of subjects as options will always be dependent on timetabling constraints.

b) An A Level in 'own language', where possible (currently, we offer Chinese, French, German, Russian and Spanish).

c) IGCSE Mathematics - Please note: ONLY pupils completing the 1 year Pre A course will be able to sit this IGCSE external examination in the Summer Term and, depending on pupil's option choices, some of these lessons may have to be timetabled during the same period as - and take priority over - one or more of the pupil's A Level option subjects.

d) 5 EAL lessons (included in the fees) per week with 3 or more of these focusing on preparation for the IELTS examination and at least 1 per week focusing on option subject specific support within the Learning Plus Department.

e) Games and PSHE

For pupils wishing to explore or develop their knowledge and skills within more creative subjects, in addition to their subject choices as outlined above, there is also the opportunity for Pre A pupils to experience lessons and / or self-motivated study time in both Art and Music.

Please note: it is expected that our 1 year Pre A course pupils successfully complete their IGCSE Mathematics in the Summer Term prior to progressing on to their 'standard' 2 year A Level course lessons in the following September.

A standard 2 year GCSE course (years 10 and 11)

For more information regarding courses please refer to the GCSE options booklet.
