Senior Inspection Reports

As Bournemouth Collegiate School was founded in September 2009, the relevant Inspection Reports are those for the two founder schools – Wentworth College and Uplands School.

Wentworth College Inspections: Autumn 2007 and 2008

Wentworth College was judged as ‘highly successful in achieving its aims’ in an inspection by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) in Autumn 2008 following the acquisition of the school by the United Church Schools Trust. The inspection was carried out over four days in late September. The resulting report gave credit to the high standards of education provided at Wentworth. The school was described as providing a ‘high quality educational experience’, with inspectors noting the school’s continuous improvements in examination results.

The report also deemed the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of the pupils to be ‘outstanding’, observing that ‘pupils often use the word ‘family’ when describing the school’. The inspectors said that pupils ‘from an early age learn to make responsible and reasoned judgements on moral and ethical issues’ and ‘have a sound understanding of what it is to be a citizen’.

Charlotte Rendle-Short, Deputy Chief Executive of UCST, said of the report:

“This is a very encouraging beginning to a new chapter in the life of Wentworth College. The standard of education provided at Wentworth is excellent and the care and attention students receive is exemplary. We’re delighted to see that the school is continuing to achieve its goals, and we offer our congratulations to staff and students.”

The school’s outstanding attention to pastoral care was particularly highlighted by the inspectors, who described the school as ‘a stimulating and caring environment’ where pupils ‘develop into happy, confident young people who…leave school equipped for adult life’. The report also noted that staff are ‘unfailingly encouraging and warm, whether in lessons, activities or just passing in the corridor’.

We are also pleased to announce that following the Ofsted inspection in November 2007, the quality of boarding provision and care at Wentworth College was rated at the highest possible level – outstanding.
