Senior School Results

As a school with a small class size, Bournemouth Collegiate School gets to know every pupil well, and appreciates every child's abilities and specific needs so as to provide the encouragement and motivation that enables them to fulfil their potential. Where necessary or appropriate, we can provide learning support tailored to individual requirements. Because BCS was created in September 2009 from the merger of Uplands School and Wentworth College, all examination results refer to these two constituent schools.

In 2007, over half of all Wentworth College GCSE results were graded A* to B. With the publication of GCSE results the amount of value added, or results better than those predicted, is calculated. When independent schools were included in these league tables, Wentworth was placed top in the tables for Bournemouth. At AS/A2 in 2007, nearly 75% of all results were graded A to C and the students achieved a record number of UCAS points.

In 2008, over two thirds of all Wentworth College GCSE results were graded A* to B. In terms of value added, Wentworth was again placed top in the tables for Bournemouth. At AS/A2 in 2008, over 85% of all results were graded A to C and the students achieved a record number of UCAS points. The Autumn 2008 independent inspection report for Wentworth College stated that, “in all subjects, pupils’ standards of attainment exceed national levels in relation to their age, prior achievement and perceived capabilities”.

In 2009 (still before the BCS merger) Wentworth College again had two thirds of its GCSE results graded A*-B, giving a 5-year average of 63% for A*-B. On average over the past 5 years, 90% of pupils have gained 5 or more passes at GCSE. The 5-year average pass rate at grades A-C is now 71%. In 2009, all students were awarded a place at the university of their choice.

BCS pupils are also successful in such diverse areas as ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence), the Young Enterprise examination, LAMDA and the Royal School of Music examinations. Many students achieve the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
