Is Music your Passion?

BCS has long had a reputation for excellence in music.  The school’s choir, chamber choir and orchestra are superb, while the emergence of outstanding new rock bands, jazz bands and various ensemble groups has diversified and extended the musical repertoire.  In addition, there are numerous groups working on their own compositions, and the guitarists are leading the way.  The school has a recording group and also offers a sound and lighting club run by a trained expert.  The modern choir arrangements and musical renditions are all a key feature of BCS, while percussionists are the most frequent users of the excellent music centre. 

Pupils are able to attend one to one lessons on site, and a huge range of disciplines are included;  music theory, percussion, brass, strings, woodwind, guitar, and the flautists are all active players at BCS.  Many of our productions have a strong musical dimension and the BCS musicians are regular performers at a variety of venues around the country and abroad.  There are regular trips aboard, and most recently the school has performed in Paris, at Disney World, and joined the United Learning performers at African Sanctus in Canterbury Cathedral and Southwark Cathedral.

The school has a very high percentage of grade 6 and above musicians, and significant number on grade 8.  Music examinations are supported and we prepare pupils for these, while the school regularly performs in many festivals, including those in Bournemouth and Southampton.
