Sixth formers have been busy developing a link with local charity Crumbs Cafe and training provider in Boscombe. Established as a disability training charity, CRUMBS has, since 1997, developed a workplace, pre-employment programme of learning.Training is undertaken through dedicated baking/ cooking/ service delivery programmes, which is accessed by a mixed-disability workforce - unique to this area. All of the trainees are local adults with mental illness, learning disabilities, stabilised addiction and acquired head injury.Emphasis is on skills and confidence: improving health and employability.
Already plans are underway for some small scale fundraising such as our Halloween dress up day, with ghoulish cupcakes being supplied by crumbs Some bigger projects are underway with a planned sky dive which the sixth formers are trying to rope Mr Duckitt in to! Christmas will see our musicians performing in town at crumbs. Plans for early spring include a mammoth beach relay involving the whole school.
The link also offers a very exciting opportunity in that the sixth form cafe bar may provide a base for a satellite from crumbs, operating once a week, this provides a chance to mentor and work alongside crumbs.
We are really excited about the plans and being able to support such a local charity.
