Election 2010
With the
general election in full swing, here at BCS we decided that we wouldn’t be left
out! So Year 12 launched their own school election which followed many of the
patterns of the real thing.
We started
with an assembly the Friday before and presented the school with a number of
parties and their manifestoes, these included the three main parties but also
some alternatives such as The Monster Raving Looney Party (this party was
particularly popular among the younger years!) Election day finally dawned,
Thursday 6th May, and Year 12 were busy setting up the polling
station which was located in the Jones Hall.
Following a
manic morning of cutting ballot papers and putting together a voting booth, the
doors finally opened to the school at lunchtime and queues quickly formed. All
were very excited, staff and pupils alike, at being able to participate in this
event. It proved a very busy lunchtime and when the doors finally shut the
counting began!
The results
were as follows: Labour in 4th, Monster Raving Looney Party in 3rd,
Liberal Democrats in 2nd and finally the Conservative Party took
first place, which is interesting as this has reflected the outcome of the
actual General Election. Year 12 all
enjoyed the challenge of putting together their own general election and it was
also a fun way of getting the school involved in politics!
