Engineering Futures
Year 12 were
fortunate enough to benefit from an informative talk on the life of an engineer
during our PSHE lesson as part of the Sixth Form enrichment / careers
programme. Debbie Stephens, a Chief Mechanical
Engineer at Selex Communications, opened our eyes to the versatile world of
engineering, a profession many of us had never considered before. We learnt
that there are many different areas of engineering that one could work in, for
example: a Civil Engineer could design a
bridge. A number of props were used to demonstrate this!
Debbie also
told us of the importance of work experience and how it can help propel you
further into your chosen field of work. We told her a little about ourselves
and what we planned to do in the future and she gave us lots of useful advice
that we are sure we will all put into practice. We were grateful for the
opportunity to hear about Debbie’s line of work and we all look forward to
visits from other professionals.
