Friendships across the world
Bournemouth Collegiate School has been
delighted to welcome two groups of overseas visitors recently. First to visit
were 30 pupils from Bangkok Assumption College in Thailand who stayed for a two
week visit.
During their stay pupils, who have been
boarding at the school, have enjoyed sharing lessons with their English
counterparts, evening activities with the school’s full time boarders and going
on excursions further afield including London, New Forest, the Purbecks and
home of Chelsea FC, Stamford Bridge.
Next came a group of fifty 10 and 11 year olds from Wuhan
Experimental Foreign Language School in China. The school has 5,000 pupils and
in the top ranked primary school in China.
During their visit the children stayed with host families but had
lessons and meals at the school. The link between the schools was forged in
2009 when BCS Principal, Stephen Duckitt visited the school and addressed 500
of China’s top Principals who were attending a Principals conference at the
school.
Stephen Duckitt, Principal said “this is
exactly the kind of international collaboration we welcome at BCS. It enables
our pupils to gain a valuable insight into other cultures and ways of thinking
and is part of our commitment to prepare our pupils for the multi cultural
world they will face”.
