Extracurricular Activities
Prep School Extracurricular Activities
At the Collegiate Prep School we offer an extensive programme of lunchtime and after school activities to extend and enhance the curriculum. The programme covers a wide range of interests; sport, music, art and technology. Many activities are run by the teaching staff and others by external providers. Some take place off-site for example horse riding, tennis, golf and water sports. We encourage all pupils to participate in extracurricular activities, to further their interests and talents or as an opportunity to try something new. The programme of activities changes throughout the year.
Senior School Extra Curricular Activities
As with BCPS, there is a wide ranging extra curricular programme at the senior site which occur before school, at lunchtime and afterschool. These range from academic endeavours to the creative arts. There are numerous sporting and exercise opportunities on offer and at the senior site we like to take advantage of the close proximity of the awarding winning local beaches. Pupils are able to participate in surfing, rowing and canoeing activities which are led by outside operators. Year 10 pupils and above are encouraged to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh scheme.

Drama
The Drama Department showcases a number of plays throughout the year; from Shakespeare to Terry Pratchett. All pupils are actively encouraged to participate; there is a role for everyone whether it be taking a starring role or working behind the stage on lighting or make-up.
Music
From classical to rock; from jazz to pop; BCS has it all. Numerous concerts both formal and informal are performed with panache. Musicians in 2010 had the opportunity to perform both at Disneyland Paris and Canterbury Cathedral.
School Visits
Educational visits are fully embedded across the 11-18 school curriculum and all pupils have the opportunity to learn off-site both locally and further afield including abroad. For example, in 2011-12, pupils have the opportunity to visit Iceland, Nepal, ski-ing in the French Alps, Spanish exchange to Barcelona, Seville, two day History visit to London, Hampton Court Palace, Black Country Museum, a science visit to Intech, New Forest as well as several theatre visits to support English Literature. For the sixth form there are lecture visits arranged for many subjects including Business Studies, History and French. Last year, sixth form students had the opportunity to visit New York.
Charitable Activities
At the senior site, each House has its own chosen charity for which it raises money for an entire academic year. In addition, national charitable events are supported such as Children in Need, Comic Relief and the Poppy Appeal. There is an annual Christmas party held for those with MS.
Community Links
Working with local charities such as Julia’s House, Woofability and Alpha India Foundation is helping to forge community links. Older pupils are encouraged to enrich their educational opportunities through carrying out volunteering. Representatives from local businesses are invited to talk to our pupils about their wide ranging experiences. In addition, the local police visit BCS as part of the PSHE programme.
