Sport for all at BCS
BCS takes sport very seriously and is supported by the whole school from top to bottom and it therefore plays a major part in school life. BCS is competitive in a variety of sporting disciplines and really strive for sporting success whilst equally understanding the importance for sport for all.
BCS has adopted a unique and exciting approach to sport. At our school we run an elite athlete/sports programme alongside a culture of ‘everyone can enjoy and succeed ‘in sport. We recognise that many talented sportspersons only reach great heights as they mature, therefore we give every pupil the best coaching, the greatest encouragement, and as many opportunities as possible to develop their all-round and sport specific skills. It is also our aim to promote the most diverse sporting programme possible in order that pupils may discover new sporting interested learn more about themselves as people, in individual or team based sporting environments . For those who wish to study in more detail, the school offers GCSE and A level Physical Education. In addition to sports, on offer in our elite training academy, in regular timetabled games lessons for all, in weekly competitive matches against other schools, in squad training session at lunch time, as fun sessions in our after school activity programme, all pupils also enjoy timetabled swimming and Physical education lessons.
Sports currently on offer at BCS: Rugby, Football, Hockey, Netball, Fitness, Badminton, Basketball, Swimming, Surfing, Sailing, Canoeing, Rowing, Cricket, Rounders, Athletics, Cross country, Table Tennis, Tennis, Volley ball, squash.
"Our team of enthusiastic sports staff at BCS are passionate about sport and believe that sport is a gateway into the development of a person as a whole, it gives the individual the opportunity to enhance their skills in team work, leadership and problem solving whilst having fun. Sport allows for whole person development. It gives all an insight into the importance of being healthy mentally, physically and socially and the benefits this can have on the individual. Sport can be done at BCS by everyone at all levels at BCS from elite athletes to those who wish to take part for their recreation. In sport you are placed in many competitive situations a skill which can be utilised in many areas in life."
