Volleyball in partnership with Wessex Volleyball Club

Volleyball at BCS Sports Academy
in partnership with Wessex Volleyball Club

Wessex/BCS Coaches will look to deliver a Volleyball Development Programme to enhance the volleyball skills of the pupils. The programme will be split into the following age groups:

1.  Years 5-8 (Introduction to speed ball, catch & volley, and mini volleyball)
2.  Years 9-10 (3 & 4 a side volleyball, developing all round volleyball skills)
3.  Years 11-13 (6 a side, developing an in depth knowledge of the game)

There is a local schools programme in place, with 12 secondary schools competing at all age groups on a regular basis. Wessex, in association with “The Poole and Bournemouth District League”, also organise a selection of different age group tournaments throughout the winter months that BCS will be able to enter teams in.There is also an opportunity to enter the School into the “local league”, with fixtures being played on Tuesday nights through the winter season.

It will also be the intention to run Volleyball England “Volleyball Leaders Courses” for the Year 10-13 students. This is a 6 week course, and students will receive an attendance certificate. The course has been developed by a team of practitioners working in schools and volleyball clubs, with the aim of providing potential young leaders with a basic knowledge of volleyball, and developing the skills and confidence to introduce and develop aspects of the game safely. The ability to officiate and organise small-sided games, events and tournaments is also recognised as an essential element of sport leadership that needs to be developed in young people. This award forms an integral part of the Volleyball England “Let’s Play Volleyball” National Youth Initiative and complements other opportunities including officiating, festivals, camps, teacher training and skills awards.

BEACH VOLLEYBALL

There is plenty of opportunity to take part in Beach Volleyball, with the permanent courts on the Boscombe Reef Beach less than 1000 metres away from the school. There will be regular after schools clubs, plus weekend training sessions run by Wessex/BCS coaches. It is also the intention to run weekly junior tournaments throughout the summer months, in addition to the national events that the club currently
organise. Bournemouths and Sandbanks Beaches play host to the VEBT Volleyball England Beach Tour, where a junior tour will run longside the main event for the first time this year. This will be aimed at U15 & U17 age groups, and the Wessex/BCS Coaches will be on hand at all these events to give help and advice when needed.

It will be the intention of Wessex/BCS coaches for the students to reach a National Junior level of Volleyball, while attending the school. The school will form a partnership with Wessex Volleyball Club, to implement the highest Volleyball standards “on and off” the court, and there will be an opportunity for all students to receive the highest level of Volleyball Coaching. There will also be Schools Beach Tournaments running during the summer months, where there will be an opportunity for all age groups to compete "on the sand".

Entrance Criteria

There will be no entrance criteria, but in order for a student to receive the Top Level Coaching, the student must show dedication, discipline and have the overall commitment to play the sport at the highest level.

The Wessex/BCS coaches will reserve the right on selection to the elite training programme.
