Meet the Coaches
ACADEMY COACHES
Zoe Baker, Swimming
Zoe is a 4 time World Record Holder in 50m Breaststroke and a Commonwealth and European Champion. She also holds a UKCC/ASA Level 3 Senior Coach qualification.
Zoe was Head Coach to the Somerset Cheetas Performance Squad where she coached two national age group champions in 2010. Zoe has also been a coach for the GB National Squad, leading the Breastroke group and was a South West England Talent Development coach for 2010/2011.
Adam Parfitt, Swimming
Adam has a degree in Sports Coaching and Physical Education and experience coaching with two of the UK's leading Age Group and Youth Programmes. In 2010 he started full time coaching with Seagulls Swimming Club where he led the age group programme which saw swimmers gain national and regional medals. Adam was also invited to coach on the British Swimming Disability "World Class Talent" Programme. Adam also holds the UKCC/ASA Level 3 Senior Coach qualification.
James Pankhurst, Tennis
James is qualified as an LTA Master Performance Coach and an LTA Licenced Coach. He also holds a degree in Physical Education and Sports Science from Loughborough University.James is the West Hants High Performance Centre Performance Manager and is a Somerset Mens County Player as well as being a member of the West Hants Mens Team. He was Dorset Coach of the Year in 2006 and LTA National Coach of the Year in 2002.
Mark Reid, Tennis
Mark has been Director of Tennis at The West Hants Club since March 1999 having previously worked for the LTA in Essex and Oxfordshire. Mark is in overall control of all aspects of the tennis programme at West Hants. He holds the LTA Performance Coach Award and has been a Coach Education Tutor for the LTA for the past 15 years.
Trevor Jenkins, Football
Trevor is a qualified UEFA B Coach and holds Modules One and Two of the FA Youth Award. He also has the P Award in SAQ Training and is currently the Director of Football for Arsenal Soccer Schools South West. He has over 16 years of football coaching experience both in the UK and USA. Trevor is also Head Coach at the Somerset FA Girls Centre of Excellence.
Tom Symons, Football
Tom holds a degree in Coach and Athlete Development, the P Award in SAQ Training and is FA Level 2 qualified. He has coached football for 15 years at many levels including University and local league teams. He is a Coach for the U16 Dorset County Rep Squad and the Arsenal Soccer Schools Development Centre and Goalkeeper Centre.
Andy Jones, Volleyball
Andy is a GB Beach Development Coach and also holds a Level 2 Coaching Award and has played and coached at National Level. As well as being involved in the GB Beach Coaching Programme he is also Head Coach to the Bournemouth University Varsity Programme.
Hayley Yelling, Cross Country
Hayley is a double European Cross Country Champion (2004 & 2009) and a Great Britain Senior Athlete over a 15 year period. She recorded fourth places in two Commonwealth Games in the 10,000m event. BCS Cross Country training sessions regularly see Hayley striding out in front of a crowd of runners!
Robyn Chambers, Rowing
Robyn is a UKCC Level 2 Rowing Coach who has coached in South Africa at both school and university level and rowed for South Africe at the World Championships in 2002. She is currently a rowing coach at Christchurch Rowing Club and coaches BCS pupils three times a week.
Anta Riekstina, Basketball
Basketball at BCS is supported by Anta, a Level 2 Basketball coach. Anta played in both the Latvian and Russian national teams and has also played locally for Solent Suns.
Helen Troke, Badminton
Badminton is coached by well known local coach Helen, who is a former Commonwealth and European Gold and World Bronze Medallist.
Charlie Campbell-Wynter, Squash
Charlie has coached squash for 10 years at SRA Level 2, working at both David Lloyd Ringwood & 2 Riversmeet Leisure Centre. He has played division 1 squash since 1992 for Devon/Dorset and is currently playing county squash for Dorset over 45’s. Charlie coaches for the U15 boys County team and have a growing juniors section with many who have reached county level.
BCS PE STAFF
Richard Harrison -Poole
Richard is Head of Sport and Head of Boys Sport/PE at BCS and Head of the Sports Academy.
Richard has played county hockey at U16 to U18 as was part of the South West England Hockey Development Squad. He has represented Bournemouth University at 1st team level and now plays for the Bournemouth Hockey Club Men's 1st team. He has also managed this team. Richard is a genuine all round sportsman and in now heavily involved in the teaching and management of BCS Sports and PE and the BCS Sports Academy.
Richard is also a member of the BCS Boarding Staff and enjoys playing sport with the boarders in the evenings.
Sophie Heap
Sophie is Head of Girls sport at BCS. As well as being a County representative for Netball, Swimming and Badminton she was also a Southern District Athlete. During her degree course in Exeter she played 1st Team Netball and currently plays Netball in the Bournemouth League.
Gary Smart
Gary is in charge of all the sport at our Prep School. He played semi professional football whilst studying at University and subsequently played for Chichester City, Selsey and Hamworthy United. Gary is still involved in football as the player/coach at Allendale FC where he is also the Assistant Manager. Gary is also a keen cricketer and has played in the Dorset Premier League. He currently plays for Shroton CC and Hamworthy Recreation where he also coaches the U8/U9/U10 and U11 cricketers.
Tom French
Tom is an outstanding hockey coach, having successfully coached Bournemouth Mens Hockey teams at all levels and Bournemouth University men's 1st team (taking them to second nationally). As a player Tom has played for many first teams and is currently a first team player at Bournemouth. He has also played at County Level. Tom enjoys all sport and has a determined and winning mentality.
Tom is Head of Boys Boarding at BCS and is always on hand to support after hours sport.
Natalie Stride
Natalie is the co-ordinator of water sports at BCS and has developed a full programme of sailing, kayaking, windsurfing, rowing and surfing. She has played county and regional level hockey up to U18 and has played first team ladies hockey at various clubs and at university. In addition she has played first team cricket at university and first team football for Milton Keynes.
Calum McGregor
Calum leads on rugby at BCS and has played county level rugby at every age group from U15’s to men’s 1st XV level, including representative honours for the South East England U20’s. He has played semi-professional rugby at Newbury RFC in National 1, and for London Irish A. Due to school commitments he is currently playing his rugby with Winchester RFC. Calum is also a keen all-round sportsmen and regular plays golf and competes in triathlons and other adventure races.
Chloe Lawrence
Chloe is a leading BCS netball coach and has competed competitively in swimming, netball, badminton, cross country, athletics and rounders. An ex Bournemouth Dolphins, county and regional swimmer, she also represented her county in badminton. She was captain of the Brunel University riding team and is currently a member of Bournemouth netball club.
Chloe is a member of the BCS boarding team and welcomes playing sport after hours with the boarders.
David Revill
David has a strong track record as a school coach in the independent sector, with strengths in football, rugby and hockey coaching. He has played club level hockey, rugby and football where he played in both the Sussex Premiership and the Bristol Downs Premiership (where his team was crowned Premiership champions for 2 consecutive seasons!).
As Head of Boarding David takes a particular interest in the welfare of our sporting boarders.
