Our Coaching Philosophy

 Our Coaching Philosophy

BCS has a range of top coaches and support staff who have local, national and international experience in their chosen fields. These staff are able to get the very best out of our sportsmen and women and the result is that many of our pupils are now national champions and some are world champions. In addition, the expertise that these experienced coaches and staff bring to the school has enabled our own sports and physical education department to excel, and the school teams are more successful than ever.

Our team of coaches are all sportsmen in the true sense of the word, encouraging our pupils to win, but also preparing them to act as suitable ambassadors  or their sport and their school. Many of our pupils are being trained for Olympic and world success, but as a school our Sports Academy has been designed to ensure that Academy members  maintain their sense of reality, of moral living, of sportsmanship and of the need the support their teammates. As a school, the Academy has been designed to not only deliver the very best sporting opportunities, but also to make sure that the educational, pastoral and social needs of the Academy puils are carefully and expertly nurtured.

Our coaches and athletes are supported by renowned performance coach, Bernie Shrosbree. Bernie is a former member of the Royal Marines elite Special Boat Service and a world class athlete in adventure sports. He has over 30 years experience of top level competition and coaching in various disciplines including adventure sports, nordic skiing, triathlon and winter biathlon. Bernie has won TV's UK Survival of the Fittest three times and has been runner up in the World Survival of the Fittest and Conquer the Arctic.

Bernie has worked with international adventure racers and various olympic athletes, including the GB rowing squad, cyclists and world champion tri-athletes. In addition he created the UK's first Formula 1 Human Performance Training Centre and has worked with drivers including Jenson Button, Mark Webber, Fernando Alonso and Giancarlo Fisichella.

Bernie has been credited with shaping up "Team Qinetiq", made up of ex Olympian and adventurer James Cracknell, Ben Fogle and  Dr Ed Coats for their entry to the South Pole race in 2008/2009 in which they came second only to a team of Norwegian polar experts.

Recently Bernie has been working again with Ben Folge on the BBC programme "A Year of Adventure" and has just returned from competing in the Moab 24 hour Extreme Mountain Bike race in Utah.
