The School Sites

The Preparatory School is situated in Poole in 5 acres of gently sloping woodland 2 miles from the coast and uses custom-built premises with a substantial surrounding area for play and sports. The 8-acre Senior School site is close to the cliff-top in Bournemouth and uses teaching and boarding facilities built around the old Wentworth Lodge which were once part of the Portman Estate. The house, built in 1872, was used by Viscount Portman as a summer residence for around six weeks every year. The school has formal gardens, very attractive surrounding woodland and extensive sports and play areas.

Around the School

BCS has a wonderful location on the south coast of England, made distinctive by both its physical location close to the cliff top at Bournemouth and of its very varied and attractive surroundings. To the West lies the amazing World Heritage Site of the Dorset coast, while to the East we have the Isle of Wight and the New Forest - which was “new” 1000 years ago when it was established as a Royal Hunting Forest! The beach and the huge sheltered harbours to East and West are unique resources for BCS pupils. Boscombe’s new surf reef  (a first for England!) is just 20 minutes walk from school. We also have a special link with local Water Sports providers, that means that we are able to arrange a full programme of water-based activities such as surfing, sailing, kayaking and body-boarding throughout the year.
