Exciting Changes
EXCITING TIMES
It is entirely understandable that the future often seems uncertain and worrying - but at BCS we are delighted to be able to view it with both confidence and excitement. When many schools are struggling or even faltering, BCS is enjoying strong and sustained growth based on investment both in the teaching and learning that we offer from Early Years to Sixth Form, and in the school buildings and estates that are home to our rapidly-growing number of pupils. We have much to look forward to.
Pupil numbers are increasing across the entire school age range and many year groups are now full with waiting lists, or only have a few places left. To support this massive growth, additional classes have been created in 5 year groups across the school. The senior school will almost be at capacity in September 2011, and it is anticipated that waiting lists for 2012 will be started by October of 2011. It is essential to register early to avoid disappointment. The senior school is now over 350 pupils.
We have invested heavily in new facilities and in our estates to underpin this growth, and all around us are signs of change and development. Prep school numbers will be in excess of 160 in September 2011, and to accommodate the increased demand in the outstanding Early Years and in the main school we are creating new teaching areas for 2012, to enable the Prep School to grow to 250.
The school enjoyed record GCSE results, with 93% of all pupils gaining at least 5 or more A* to C grade passes including in English and mathematics. These results place BCS as the top performing non-selective school in the area. For the second year in a row 100% of our A level leavers gained a place at their first choice university and course.
The new s
ports academy has started and provides talented pupils with unrivalled opportunities: coaching, physical and mental conditioning and access to advanced sports research programmes and internationally-recognised mentors. Our team includes a number of ex world champions, European champions, international athletes and mentors and conditioning trainers working with some of the world’s top performers.
Our Sixth Form has grown beyond recognition in the last two years, and in September 2011 the school appointed a new dynamic and experienced team of staff, under the leadership of our new Head of Sixth Form, Mrs Maria Coulter, to support this growth and to help promote a number of new exciting and forward - thinking initiatives planned for the BCS Sixth Form.
