The Governing Bodies
Bournemouth Collegiate School and the United Church Schools Trust
BCS is a member of the UCST group of 11 independent schools, which teaches over 8000 children nationwide and forms one of the largest providers of independent education in the country. The governance of the school is therefore undertaken through the UCST structure. The formal governing body of BCS (covering both the Preparatory School and the Senior School) is the Board of the UCST. This Board carries statutory responsibility for the educational and care provision at BCS, and oversees its budget and financial management.

The individual school Principals within the UCST group enjoy a very considerable freedom to create their own agenda and priorities, whilst working within the overall ethos and educational guidance of the group. While the Principals are wholly responsible for the detailed management of their schools, the UCST Governing Council is responsible for appointing head teachers, determining group-wide policies, approving budgets and monitoring the performance and progress of individual schools. UCST is run centrally in Oundle, Peterborough.
To provide a strong local sense of management and strategy, BCS has a Local Governing Body (LGB) with its own Chair and governors drawn from across the Bournemouth and Poole communities. The LGB, which oversees both the Preparatory and Senior Schools, works with the Principal to assess school outcomes (educational and social), set strategic priorities, support school operational and extra-curricular needs, play a front-line role in areas such as Child Protection and Health and Safety, and offer a direct line of contact to pupils and their families. The LGB Chair is a member of the UCST Board, and thus represents the school on its formal governing body.
The members of the BCS Local Governing Body are:
Andrew Barfield - designated Equal Opportunities governor
Brian Cooley - designated Marketing governor
Nina Dunne (Chair) - designated Safeguarding (Child Protection) governor
Jane Kilpatrick
Kathleen Oliver - representing the Milton Mount Foundation
Gill Randall
Revd Ian Terry
