Daily Life as a Boarder

  • Rising bell                   7.25am (Saturday and Sunday 8.30am)
  • Breakfast                    7.55am (Saturday and Sunday 9.00am)
  • Registration                 8.45am (Monday to Friday)

Boarders then join the day students for the normal school day on Monday to Friday. Lunch for Year 7-9 is at 12.50pm and for Year 10-11 at 1.15pm Monday to Friday; 12.30pm Saturday and Sunday.

There will be some activities for those who want to join in after 7.30pm each night, and in Summer boarders go down to the beach whenever possible. The boarding staff challenge the boarders to football, basketball and tennis matches, and we aim to have early morning swimming available for staff and boarders too. Hot chocolate on the cold winter nights is a must, and we will be inviting your day friends for sleepovers so they too can join in the fun.  In addition we welcome flexi-boarders into the boarding house for single nights or short stays.  Boarders, together with day students, are also able to enjoy an exciting programme of activities from 4.15pm to 5pm Monday to Friday. The extensive activity list is made available to all BCS students on the first day of term. There are also some activity sessions for boarders on Saturdays, for example digital photography is offered to both boarders and day students. Boarders have full access to a range of water sports activities on weekends, and a new surfing reef (the first in the country) opens at the end of September on the beach just below the school.

At the weekend, the day is more relaxed, but still full of interest:

  • Prep/quiet time            9.30am to 11.00am (Saturday) or 11.30am (Sunday)
  • Lunch                          12.30pm
  • Activities/free time       1.00pm to 5.00pm (Saturday) or 6.00pm (Sunday)
  • Tea (optional)              4.00pm
  • Supper                         6.30pm
  • House Activities           7.30pm (Saturday)

Bedtime varies with the boarder’s age: they should be thinking about getting ready for bed about 30 minutes before “lights out”.
