UK, Forces and Foreign Boarders
In 2010 we have seen a 56% increase in the number of UK
based and expat boarders. Some are
weekly boarders, others are full boarders.
These boarders comment on the homely feel of the school, and the fact
that they can bring their own duvets, cuddly toys, music equipment, gadgets,
and many boards have their bicycles, roller blades, skateboards and other
leisure items with us, including their own drum kits in some cases!
BCS has strong links with the Forces, and there are generous
Forces discounts. Our forces boarders
live at home and abroad.
With 27 different nationalities represented at BCS the
school is truly multicultural and the staff have a wealth of experience in supporting
foreign boarders. We ensure a good mix
of nationalities in the boarding houses, and we encourage strong integration
between all nationalities. Our
integration is strengthened by regular themed meals e.g. Italian, Thai,
Chinese, South African, Brazilian etc. and we have a very strong EAL (English
as an additional language) department. Many
foreign sixth formers benefit from the three year Sixth Form Foundation
Programme.
We currently have pupils in BCS form England, Scotland,
Ireland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Spain, Germany, Russia, Kazakhstan, Latvia,
Ukraine, South Africa, Australia, United Sates of America, Brazil, Colombia,
New Zealand, Malaysia, Philippines, Norway, Belgium, China (mainland and Hong
Kong), Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Kenya, Turkey, Afghanistan, Dubai, Iran and
Japan.
