The Boarding House

Bournemouth Collegiate School provides a stimulating and caring environment in which we respond to the different needs of every pupil, helping them to reach their full potential. We aim to develop happy, confident young people who are proud of their academic success and personal achievements and who leave here equipped for adult life. School House aims to create a family atmosphere that enables girls and boys to grow in independence. There is always an adult presence without invading pupils’ sense of privacy. We encourage everyone to develop their character, personality and talents within the framework of the boarding community.

Boarding at BCS is housed in a modern building alongside the school’s Sports Hall, and is closely integrated with the teaching and catering areas. The entire boarding house will be undergoing a makeover during this year, and every room is being upgraded.  The combined boys’ and girls’ common room, The Den, has been completely refurbished, and we have created two new smaller common rooms, one for boys only and one for girls only.  The whole boarding house is also being repainted internally during Autumn Term 2009, so that everything feels fresh and new.

The boarders’ bedrooms are on the first floor, but the two parts of the Boarding House are securely separated, though they share a common room with social and recreational facilities and a small kitchen. Boys and girls also have their own separate common rooms. The boarders have their own gated section of the school gardens, accessible directly from The Den, and can thus relax indoors or out depending on the weather.

Most bedrooms in the Boarding House are for two people and use shared bathroom facilities. There are a few larger rooms, but also some single and en-suite rooms. Many of the rooms have an additional bed, as we encourage boarders to invite friends to sleep over (Flexi-boarding) from time to time.
